Aldi will be selling a new product in store next month. Customers will be able to opt for coffee infused bacon instead of normal bacon to eat with their breakfast or on a sandwich.
In early 2019, Caffè Nero introduced coffee-infused bacon rolls to its menu.
The bun was the first of its kind and mixed Italian espresso coffee with crispy British bacon.
The coffee-infused product was added to the chain’s new espresso-inspired menu.
To create the bacon with a twist, Caffè Nero cured the meat for over 20 hours using its signature blend of coffee.
Caffè Nero said that it took the company around seven months to get the flavour of the coffee-infused bacon just right.
A spokesperson for the chain said at the time: “We initially developed a recipe using our ground Classico coffee and through a series of six different trial stages, this then evolved into the final recipe using our cold brew.
“The cold brew is still based on our signature Classico blend but is extracted much slower in cool, purified water.
“The extraction process alters the flavour profile, enhancing the naturally sweet undertones in the coffee, which complement the bacon so well.”
In other Aldi news, the discount retailer will be bringing its Cuthbert the Caterpillar cake back to stores, despite it being a seasonal product and not usually available at this time of year.
The supermarket announced that it will reintroduce the item to shelves after the news of its legal battle with Marks and Spencer made headlines last week.
M&S accused Aldi of infringing its Colin the Caterpillar cake trademark.
Aldi released a statement addressing M&S directly. It said: “Hey Marks and Spencer we’re taking a stand against caterpillar cruelty. Can Colin and Cuthbert be besties?
“We’re bringing back a limited-edition Cuthbert next month and want to donate all profits to cancer charities including your partners Macmillan Cancer Support and ours Teenage Cancer Trust.
“Let’s raise money for charity, not lawyers #caterpillarsforcancer.”
