New Recipe: Local Eats: Greek food and ice cream are a recipe for success at Stoyanna’s near Jackson

JACKSON, MI — Authentic Greek food and ice cream is the recipe for success at Stoyanna’s.

Siera Stoyanovitch opened Stoyanna’s Ice Cream and Stoyanna’s Catering and Carry Out during the COVID-19 pandemic in August 2020. It’s in the location of the former Scream’n Mimi’s Ice Cream and the Chocolate Moose at 5031 and 5037 Brooklyn Road (M-50).

“We put a Greek twist to everything,” Stoyanovitch said.

Stoyanovitch makes a new menu weekly. But some mainstays are always on the menu like gyro’s, baklava and a host of entrees.

“What I want Stoyanna’s to be known for is to be the most authentic, freshest food you can get around town,” she said.

Popular dishes include the Greek salad and the spinach pie. (Check out the photos to see these along with a pulled pork gyro, soup and the ice cream.)

On the ice cream side of the business, Stoyanovitch has upped the game. While you can still get an ice cream cone, you can also get a sweet treat with a Greek twist using a phyllo pie with the ice cream. Three ice cream specials are offered each week with different ice cream flavors.

The carry out plan that came along with opening the business during the pandemic has fit in well, Stoyanovitch said. She is grateful for the support of the community.

“I want everybody to know, the customers and community, how grateful we are,” she said. “A lot of people are losing businesses but we are growing.”

Stoyanna’s Catering and Carry Out is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Stoyanna’s Ice Cream is open from noon to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Call 517-240-5261. For more information visit
